Press ReleasesSly Stone Sues former manager Jerry Goldstein for damages of $50 Million for converting or misappropriating Sly Stone's royalties.January 28, 2010 LOS ANGELES – Legendary funk artist Sly Stone filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court today on the eve of the Grammys charging his former manager Jerry Goldstein with fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and conversion for diverting, converting and misappropriating his royalties and assets for over 20 years. The suit demands a full accounting from royalty collection companies to determine actual amounts taken but they are estimated to be in the $20-30 million range. The suit also seeks punitive damages. On June 23, 2009, Robert Allan spoke at the “Foreign Corrupt Practices Act” breakout session and the "globalization" session in the two day conference, which is the nation's premier executive education program for directors and senior executives of publicly traded firms. Mr. Allan is highly regarded in the area of international business, especially as it relates to U.S.-China relations. Other panelists included Alan Crain of Baker Hughes and the Hon. Stanley Sporkin, former U.S. District Court Judge. Attending the seminar are CEOs of publicly held companies, scholars and board members. Additional topics analyzed were the credit crunch, corporate governance and risk management.
On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, Robert J. Allan, Stella Yap, and Consultant Edythe Huang of the Allan Law Group met with co-counsel, Alan Dershowitz, Nat Dershowitz, and Amy Adelson to prepare for an oral argument to be presented by Alan Dershowitz in support of a brief filed by our firm and co-counsel for our client seeking the New York Appellate Court to overturn an arbitration award for over $90 million dollars which exceeded the arbitrator's authority and showed a manifest disregard for the law.
